Unraced Jaguar D-type heading for sale

A Jaguar D-type that has never been raced is heading for sale on 1 November in Broad Arrow’s Zurich Auction.

The short-nose D-type is one of the last to be built and has been in the hands of its Swiss owner for the past three decades.

Chassis XKD 551 has never been used in competition and is said to be one of the most original of the 71 D-types produced. The 1956 car was converted to semi-XKSS road specification with the central spar removed and a passenger door added.

In the 1970s, the car was converted back to full D-type configuration and was bought by the current owner in 1994.It has recently been reunited with its original engine and is being sold complete with its FIA Historical Identity Form, FIA Passport, and FIVA Identity Card.

Yves Boitel, Car Specialist, EMEA, at Broad Arrow Auctions said: ‘The fact that this car has never been used competitively and has been meticulously cared for throughout its life, makes it one of the most exceptional D-types in existence and one that will surely create great excitement among collectors.’

The car will be auctioned at the Dolder Grand Hotel on 1 November with an estimate of £4.8-£5.7 million.
