Bidders won’t need to dig too deep into their pockets at RM Sotheby’s Hershey auction on 9-10 October to buy an important car from Steve McQueen’s collection.
The 1952 Hudson Wasp has an estimate of $40,000-$60,000 and was used by the actor right up until his death in 1980.
McQueen regularly used the was for errands and taking his kids to school, and the car is coming to sale with 65,537 miles on the clock.
The Hudson Two-Door Brougham described by McQueen as his ‘Sunday go to church car’ has the rare Power Dome cylinder head and a Twin-H Power carburettor, as well as the optional Hydra-Matic Drive transmission. These performance parts will have helped the car appeal to McQueen.
After McQueen’s death, the Wasp was sold in 1984. It was later acquired by the Petersen Automotive Museum in 2006 and comes to auction from the museum’s collection.
