Renault Icons sale totals almost €12 million

The much anticipated Renault Icons auction held in Flins-sur-Seine near Paris on 7 December saw a 100 percent sale rate and almost €12 million (£10.5 million) raised.

More than 1000 bidders registered for the sale by Artcurial, which saw Renault selling off 100 cars from its heritage collection and a large number of other items.

The top-selling lot was a 1997 Williams-Renault FW19 Formula 1 driven by Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Jacques Villeneuve that sold for €1,312,400 (£1,146,000).

A Renault Clio Williams Series 2 that had been part of the company’s heritage collection since new made €54,180 (£47,300), while a 1983 Renault Maxi 5 Turbo driven by Jean Ragnotti sold for €216,720 (£189,260).

Matthieu Lamoure, President of Artcurial Motorcars, said: ‘With this Renault Icons sale, we had the honour of showcasing exceptional models of rare provenance and remarkable history. The success of this sale demonstrates not only the public’s deep attachment to French automotive heritage, but also the trust placed in Artcurial Motorcars for its unique expertise in enhancing exceptional collections. We are proud to have contributed to this memorable chapter in the story of automotive passion.’

The proceeds from the auction will be used for the reacquisition and restoration of missing models ahead of Renault opening its new heritage centre on the Flins-sur-Seine site in 2027.
