Chevrolet Vintage restores Omega to perfection

Chevrolet Vintage has restored a 1994 Omega as a calling card for its factory original restoration services.

The rare Omega has a 3.6-litre straight-six and has period Irmscher tuning parts fitted.

Currently only available in Brazil, Chevrolet Vintage opens up the possibility of parts and restoration services for similar models such as the Holden Commodore, Opel Omega, and Vauxhall Carlton that all used the same platform.

The Chevrolet Vintage project included a full nut and bolt restoration of the Omega saloon, using factory parts wherever needed.

After completion, the car was tested on General Motors’ proving ground where the 200bhp Irmscher-tuned engine was shown to be back to its best.

The car has since been sold by Chevrolet Vintage for R$437,000 (£60,000) in a charity auction.

Chevrolet Vintage is promising more restorations, including a rally-spec Chevrolet S10 pick-up truck, Opala, Monza, and Kadett GSi.

Emerson Fischler, engineering director of GM South America, said: ‘Chevrolet Vintage will operate in two strategic niches of classic cars: restoration and restomod.

‘While the first modality aims to preserve the originality of the vehicle and its accessories as much as possible, in restomod, the objective is different – that is why technological updates are added to the vintage car to make it more comfortable, safe or even reliable for everyday use.’
