A flurry of Fords heading to auction

Fifty Fords will go under the hammer at Iconic Auctions sale on 21-22 March at the Restoration Show.

With an expected total of more than £1 million for the 50 Fords, there is something for every fan of the Blue Oval.

One of the most keenly anticipated lots is an early ‘Big Turbo’ Escort Cosworth that was one of the original 2500 homologation models.
Finished in Mallard Green, it comes with a full engine rebuild and an estimate of £60,000-£70,000.

Another Cosworth expected to generate plenty of bidding is a 1988 Sierra RS500 Cosworth. This is number 54 of the 500 produced and has just 35,790 miles on the clock.

The estimate of £80,000-£100,000 could easily be exceeded given previous prices reached for Sierra Cosworths in the excellent condition.

A 1968 Escort 1600 GT will also draw in fast Ford enthusiasts as it wears an ‘AOO’ registration associated with Ford works cars. This one is thought to have connections with the Aveley factory when new and might have been used a prototype for the RS1600 model due to a number of upgrades that appear to have been fitted from new. It comes with an estimate of £40,000-£50,000.

A 1983 Fiesta XR2 should be more affordable as it has an estimate of £22,000-£26,000 for this 42,000-mile example in excellent condition.

However, it might be eclipsed by a 1994 Fiesta 1.3 Finesse that has covered just 800 miles from new and is described as being in time warp condition.

Rob Hubbard, Managing Director and Principal Auctioneer at Iconic Auctioneers, said: ‘Ford has produced some of the most loved cars in motoring history, from everyday heroes to genuine performance icons.

‘This selection reflects that perfectly, with everything from rare RS models and rally-bred Escorts to wonderfully preserved survivors. Whether you’re a seasoned collector or buying your first classic Ford, this catalogue shows just how strong the enthusiasm for the Blue Oval remains.’
