A new world record price for a Mercedes-Benz CLK63 AMG Black Series was achieved at Iconic Auctioneers’ Supercar Fest sale.
The 2009 CLK63 AMG Black Series coupé with just 9088 mils on the clock from new saw the hammer fall at £193,500 and added to an auction total of £7 million across 194 lots.
The same sale also witnessed a new UK record for a McLaren 675LT Spider sold at auction with a final price of £310,500.
The sale at Sywell Autodrome enjoyed strong bidding on a number of other modern classics, including a Bentley Brooklands Coupé that made £169,875 to sell for almost £50,000 more than its top estimate.
A Dakar Yellow BMW M3 Evolution set another UK record for this E36 model when it reached £56,250, while the late singer Chris Rea’s Porsche 911 Carrera GTS found a new owner for £96,750.
The singer’s EV-converted Fiat 500 was sold for £23,625, easily beating its upper estimate of £14,000.
Another Italian to sell well was a 2000 Lamborghini Diablo VT 6.0 that reached £376,875, while a 1996 Honda NSX-T was hammered down for £73,125 to sell for £18,000 above its high estimate.
A 1970 Lotus Elan S4 SE FHC in need of restoration showed more traditional classics are still in demand with a final price of £23,063 to go for nearly three times its pre-sale upper estimate.
Rob Hubbard, Managing Director and Principal Auctioneer at Iconic Auctioneers, said: ‘The results from Supercar Fest show how discerning today’s collector car market has become. The headline performances from the CLK63 AMG Black Series, McLaren 675LT Spider and Bentley Brooklands Coupé prove that exceptional late 2000s and 2010s cars are now firmly in collectors’ sights, particularly when rarity, mileage and condition align.
‘At the same time, the response to cars such as the Lotus Elan and Chris Rea’s Fiat 500 EV shows that buyers are still interested in earlier classics with originality, charm and provenance.’
