Big Yanks and Brit lightweights lead at Kelham Hall sale

Variety is the spice of H&H Classics’ Kelham Hall sale on Wednesday 17 June with a mix of lightweight British sports cars and heavyweight US machines crossing the block.

Among the 84 cars in the catalogue, a 2001 Strathcarron SC-5A will be sure to stir plenty of interest as the Triumph motorcycle-powered mid-engined machine is one of fewer than 20 produced. It has an estimate of £22,000-£26,000 and this example has covered just 5700 miles from new.

A different take on the lightweight motorcycle-powered theme comes from a 1935 Morgan 3-Wheeler Super Sports estimated at £20,000-£24,000.

Other bidders might fancy a slice of Sir Stirling Moss history with the Sunbeam Alpine III ex-works rally car.

Built for Moss to use in the 1955 Alpine Rally, the car didn’t take part when the rally was halted in the aftermath of the terrible Le Mans tragedy that year. This car has an estimate of £50,000-£60,000.

If heavy hitting US cars are more your cup of coffee, a Dodge Coronet R/T 440 should impress with its big block V8 and it’s one of only 4810 built. The estimate for this car is £35,000-£40,000.

Alternatively, a Nash Ambassador Six Bata Ambulance with a £16,000-£20,000 estimate would make ideal transport for many classic events over the summer. This one has been displayed at the Imperial War Museum Duxford since 1976 and is thought to be in original order.

More pre-war US interest at the sale comes in the shape of a 1933 Graham Model 64 Standard Eight ‘Blue Streak’ Sedan, estimated at £18,000-£22,000. Sold new in Belgium, this car was requisitioned by the Germans in the Second World War and spent time in the Congo before coming to the UK.

Showing plenty of patina, a 1951 Chevrolet 3100 Pickup comes with a £20,000-£24,000 estimate and plenty of bills for recent work. It’s said to be in excellent original shape and ready to be used.
