A unique opportunity to acquire a pair of Works Opel Manta 400s rallied by rivals Jimmy McRae and Russell Brookes is heading for sale on Friday 24 July with Iconic Auctioneers.
The Manta 400 registered ADZ 4330 was used by McRae on the 1985 Lombard RAC Rally and finished sixth overall.
This car went on to be used by Brookes and Mike Broad through the 1986 and 1987 seasons, finishing second overall in the 1986 RAC Open Rally Championship and winning the 1987 Welsh International Rally. It was also rallied by Steve Davies and Roger Jones in 1988, winning the Manx Rally outright.
The Manta 400 registered ADZ 31 was used by Russell Brookes and Mike Broad o win the 1985 British Rally Championship. It has now been fully restored in its Andrews Heat For Hire livery.
Nick Whale, Chairman at Iconic Auctioneers, said: ‘To offer one Works Opel Manta 400 with this level of history would be special. To offer two, including the 1985 British Rally Championship-winning car, is a rare privilege. These cars speak to a golden age of rallying and to the passion of a vendor who has cared for them, used them and preserved their story.’
Both cars are estimated at £180,000 to £220,000.
