It’s been christened the Porrari and uses a Ferrari-built Maserati V8 motor to power a classic Porsche 911.
Welcome to the world of Jimmy Oakes, engineer and YouTube star, who has come up with this Frankenstein mix to create a drift car that makes its debut this weekend at Formula DRIFT PRO and PROSPEC Championships at Stafford Motor Speedway in Stafford Springs, Connecticut in the US.
The 1978 Porsche 911’s 3.0-litre flat-six has been replaced by a 4.7-litre V8 from a 2007 Maserati Quattroporte that now gives the car 400bhp.
A fabricated cradle holds the engine, which is mated to a Porsche 996-generation 911 gearbox with custom flywheel and clutch.
There is also a unique exhaust, wiring, and ignition system to make the engine work in its new home.
The engine is supplied with fuel by BMW E90 M3 individual throttle bodies and it now revs to 8000rpm. A new radiator system has been installed to deal with the water-cooled V8.
Jimmy Oakes said: ‘This build wasn’t about taking the easy route. It was about building something that makes people take notice and then showing them how we did it. In my opinion, it’s projects like this that keep car culture exciting.’
This included fitting a carbon fibre roof in place of the rotted steel original. It was then painted in Porsche Guards Red, followed by fitting 17×9.5in front and 17×10.5in rear RAYS VRX-10 wheels with 235/40 R17 and 255/40 R17 Accelera 651 Sport tires, respectively.
The brakes are Porsche Boxster four-piston Brembos at each corner utilizing EBC rotors and Chase Bays lines.
