A 1953 Jaguar XK120 supplied new to the son of company founder Sir William Lyons is coming to auction with H&H Classics at its Kelham Hall sale on Sunday 23 August.
The car is believed to have been exhibited at the Earls Court Motor Show in 1953 before being sold to John Lyons, the only son of Sir William.
The 3.4-litre XK120 was sold through Coombs of Guildford and Lyons junior intended to use the car for competition. Sadly, he died in a car crash on his way to the 1955 LE Mans 24 Hours race having owned the XK for just a short period.
The car has been restored and shows 68,000 miles on the clock, and it has been used a number of times for prestigious events. This has included a drive by HRH Prince Michael of Kent for a tour of Scotland.
During an engine rebuild, it was discovered the 3.4-litr straight-six had been upgraded with chrome-plated inlet and exhaust ports, different valves and a polished cylinder head.
The pre-sale estimate for the car is £180,000-£220,000.
