The 2026 Monterey Week auctions have seen several new records set, including $43 million for a Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupé and the highest price ever paid for a British car.
The $34,655,000 (£35.4 million) paid for Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason’s McLaren F1 GTR set a new benchmark for the model and all British-built cars at RM Sotheby’s sale.
This auction saw total sales reach $380 million (£278.7 million) with 14 lots exceeding $5 million (£3.67 million) and a further 69 topping the $1 million (£730,000) mark.

A 1964 Shelby Daytona Coupé sold by Gooding Christie’s made the highest figure of all the sales during Monterey Week when it achieved $42.9 million (£31.46 million). It also set a new record for a US-made car sold and also became the most expensive car ever sold by Gooding Christie’s.
Over at Broad Arrow’s sale, a 2003 Ferrari Enzo finished in black was it’s top seller with a price of $10,675,000 (£7.8 million).
