The vendor of this 1955 Pontiac Chieftain Sedan will hope is doesn’t got a song as it is the famous ‘Cricketmobile’ used by Buddy Holly and the Crickets.
Due for auction with Mecum at its Nashville sale on Saturday 26 September, the blue and white Pontiac was used by the group for its earliest tours because of its space for people and musical instruments.
It was bought new by drummer Jerry Allison’s father and the band used the car for six years, including two years after Buddy Holly died.
Fully restored by LeRoy Morford, it was brought to his attention by Peggy Sue Gerron, who was the inspiration for the Buddy Holly Song ‘Peggy Sue’.
