2.2 million UK households are now within a 30-minute drive of a sustainable fuel distributor.
This equates to 4.3 million adults in the UK, according to analysis from SUSTAIN fuels.
As the distribution network for sustainable fuels grows, more UK drivers can use the environmentally friendlier fuel as an alternative to fossil fuels.
Suresh Nahar, brand manager for SUSTAIN, said: ‘Even if people plan to transition to an EV eventually, for now, there are literally millions of vehicles which could be running on fuels which are less damaging to the environment. These fuels are here now, they’re ready to go, and they demand no new infrastructure – they can use existing petrol forecourts.’
there are more than 29.2 million petrol and diesel cars and 1.33 million motorbikes** still driving on the UK’s roads.
Nahar added: ‘We know these fuels are a vital part of the mix when it comes to reducing our reliance on fossil fuels in transport, and so we have invested in growing the production and availability of sustainable fuel blends for motorists.
‘We would be able to achieve that much more quickly with the support of the Government, which seems determined to only back electrification. It makes for an unlevel playing field. We believe there’s no silver bullet solution to tackling climate change, and a multi-solution approach is the only really sensible option if we want to make changes as quickly as possible. Technologies don’t need to be pitted against each other as enemies, they can all have a role to play.’
