
A 1976 Ford Escort Mk2 RS1800 has gone for a world record price of £276,848 when it was sold by Historics Auctioneers on Saturday 19 July at its Summer Serenade sale in Berkshire.
The former Escort was one of five press cars is finished in its original Diamond White. It had been in single family ownership since 1977 when it came to auction and was estimated to reach between £160,000 and £185,00.
First registered on 19 May 1976, this RS1800 was one of only 109 made altogether. After working as a press car, it was sold on 8 March 1977 and remained with this family until the auction. It has been restored by expert Colin Beverley and is said to be in exceptional condition.
The car has only covered 50 miles since its restoration and shows just 24,186 miles from new. It also retains its original registration number.
