The legendary Golden Sahara II concept car is to be auctioned at the Larry’s Legacy sale by Mecum on 19-21 September.
Built by Delphos Machine and Tool, the Golden Sahara II was created from the original Golden Sahara based on a 1953 Lincoln Capril Hardtop, which was owned by George Barris.
Famed customiser Barris came up with the first Golden Sahara, while Golden Sahara II went on to showcase futuristic ideas such as automatic braking and adaptive cruise control.
The car also appeared in the 1960 film Cinderfella starring Jerry Lewis, Ed Ynn and Judith Anderson.
Jim Street looked after the car until 2018, when it was acquired by Larry Klairmont. During this time, the car’s unique tyres were recreated with help from Goodyear and Kelsey Tire.
The Golden Sahara II is being sold with no reserve.
