Toyota Turbo Trail Cruiser comes out in FORCE for SEMA show

Toyota has built a classic Land Cruiser with a modern twist for the 2025 SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) show that runs from 4-7 November in Las Vegas.

Called the Turbo Trail Cruiser, the restomod off-roader is powered by a 3.4-litre i-FORCE twin-turbo V6 engine with 389bhp and 479lb ft of torque.

That almost doubles the power of the original Land Cruiser and Marty Schwerter, Director of Operations at Toyota’s Motorsports Garage and lead builder of the project said: ‘The Turbo Trail Cruiser is about showing what happens when Toyota’s modern performance technology is integrated into one of our most iconic classics. It’s a hot-rod approach with Toyota DNA — power, drivability, and reliability in a package that still feels true to the original Land Cruiser.’

The aim of the build was to make it look factory original and the build was completed without even having to modify the front bulkhead. However, new engine mounts were created, along with a bespoke bellhousing to mate the engine to the original FJ60 model’s five-speed gearbox.

There is also a subtle 1.5-inch suspension lift, 35-inch tyres, and period-correct graphics over a fresh coat of Toyota’s Silver 147 paint.

A JBL stereo adds to the cabin’s appeal, but the Toyota Motorsports Garage team was determined to retain the look and feel of the 1986 Land Cruiser.

Mike Tripp, group vice president, Toyota Marketing, said: ‘It’s about preserving the character of a vehicle enthusiasts love while showing how seamlessly Toyota technology can elevate the driving experience. It’s a concept build, but it demonstrates the passion we share with our customers for keeping these classics alive in new and exciting ways.’
