The 1965 Ford GT40 driven by Innes Ireland and Sir John Whitmore at Le Mans is on sale with Broad Arrow.
Finished in its original Linden Green livery, the GT40 is chassis P1006 and comes to market from 30 years of single ownership in France.
This car featured the refinements developed by Ford and Carroll Shelby to give the GT40 greater speed and stability on the Mulsanne Straight, as well as improved handling and mechanical robustness.
The GT40 on offer by private sale from Broad Arrow is one of 56 Mk1 GT40s built for the 1965 World Sportscar Championship and was delivered in its distinctive green with white stripes.
One of six Ford GT40s entered for the 1965 Le Mans race, this car did not finish the race but it did go on to serve as a development car and competed at Monza the same year.
It comes to sale having been previously restored and with its FIA Historical Technical Passport.
Clément Papin, Car Specialist for Broad Arrow, said: ‘his very car, chassis number P1006, was instrumental in Ford’s eventual dominance at Le Mans with the GT40 and it remains a thrilling vintage racing entrant for collectors looking to experience the peak of the golden age of racing. The exceptional care this car has received over the last three decades makes it even more special.’
