A 1961 Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato in superbly original condition is coming to auction with RM Sotheby’s at its Monterey Car Week sale on 13-15 August.
The DB4 GT Zagato is one of only 19 built in period and chassis 0186/R was delivered new to Australia – the only example sold there when new -and it was raced by first owner Laurie O’Neill, Doug Whiteford, and Ian Geoghegan.
Today, the car retains its original engine and bodywork, and it has won major concours awards including Best of Show at the Louis Vuitton Concours d’Elegance, with later class awards at Villa d’Este and Pebble Beach.
This DB4 GT Zagato was first finished in Desert White with a red leather interior, and is now presented in Sanction II Works Green and was restored by Richard Williams in 2000.
It was a formidable competition car in Australia with its 3.7-litre 314bhp straight-six motor, but had a relatively short career which has helped to preserve the Aston in excellent shape.
It comes to auction with a pre-sale estimate of $12-$15 million (£8.9-£11.1 million).
