A wide selection of cars powered by the venerable A-series engine are set to be sold at WB & Sons’ auction on Saturday 13 June.
The oldest A-series machine in the sale is 1956 Morris Minor with split screen and invoices for plenty of recent servicing. It’s estimated at £3500-£4500.
A 1958 Austin A35 provides a different take on an A-series small saloon, and this one has been mildly modified with lowered suspension for a sportier look. It comes with an estimate of £3000-£5000.
If you want a more seriously sporting car with A-series power, there is a 1961 Austin-Healey Frogeye Sprite that has been converted for hillclimbing. It comes complete with a Skiptune 1430cc engine and an estimate of £6000-£8000.
A 1973 MG Midget is in a similar mould to the Frogeye and this one has the 1275cc A-Series motor. It’s the desirable round wheelarch model and is estimated at £3500-£4500.
If you’d prefer your sporty A-series thrills with front-wheel drive, a 1971 Morris Mini Cooper S should do the trick. An estimate of £18,000-£22,000 reflects the mileage of 26,000 for this car, which is thought to be genuine from new.
Two other Minis are in the sale, comprising a blue 1999 Rover Mini Cooper with Sports Pack that has a pre-sale estimate of £7000-£8000. Or you could opt for the red 2000 Rover Mini Cooper Sport that was registered in late 2000 for £6000-£8000.
If you fancy a classic Mini with a twist, the 1971 Innocenti Mini Minor that was built under licence in Italy is just the thing. Estimated at £2000-£3000, this example is in very original order and was imported to the UK in 2019.
A 1968 Morris 1100 is a more prosaic offering but looks to be in excellent condition and is being sold without reserve.
Later examples of cars with the A-series engine are represented by a 1984 Austin Metro Vanden Plas three-door with automatic gearbox and just 13,000 showing on the clock. In excellent order, it has a pre-sale estimate set at a modest £2000-£4000.
The other Metro in the sale is a 1989 Austin model with the 1275 Gold Seal engine and only 50,000 showing on the clocks. In ready to use state, it’s estimated at £000-£4000.
