Mercedes CLK DTM AMG is on the Button

Jenson Button’s 2004 Mercedes-Benz CLK DTM AMG is up for grabs at Iconic Auctioneers’ NEC Classic Car Show sale on Saturday 14 November.

The former Formula 1 World Champion bought the car new in 2004 and kept it until 2019.

One of only 100 CLK DTM AMGs built, the F1 champ’s car has a pre-sale estimate of £400,000-£500,000.

Rarity, celebrity ownership, and a 582bhp 5.4-litre V8 engine mean this coupé will be a big attraction at the NEC auction.

It has a top speed of 199mph and covers 0-62mph in 3.9 seconds, and this car has just 18,114km (11,321 miles) on the dials.

After Button, the car was owned by a Japanese collector and the car is being sold from this collection.

Finished in black, it comes with the distinctive flared wheelarches, carbon-fibre bodywork, large rear wing and competition-inspired two-seat interior.

It also has its unique CLK DTM owner’s wallet, two keys, complete tool kit, tyre compressor, oil filter and first aid kit.

Lionel Abbott, Car Specialist at Iconic Auctioneers, said: ‘It’s remarkable to think just how much of Jenson Button’s Formula 1 career this car was around for. He took delivery in 2004, and kept it through several tumultuous seasons with Honda, the extraordinary highs of winning the World Championship with Brawn GP in 2009, and his successful years at McLaren.

‘The CLK DTM AMG was already a very special car when new, with just 100 coupés built and a direct connection to Mercedes-Benz’s DTM racing success. To find one with such low mileage and almost 15 years of ownership by a Formula One World Champion makes this an exceptional opportunity for collectors. It’s exactly the sort of car we love to bring to market at Iconic Auctioneers.’
